You Say

A conversation with the enemy within

You say all sort of things to me but I put them aside.
I go a path you do not know, I have another guide.

You say I must not disobey and not dispute your rules,
but rules that bring fulfilling life I gaze upon like jewels.  (Psalm 19:7-11)

You say that first impressions and appearance count a lot,
but what comes out of heart and mind can really touch the spot.  (1 Samuel 16:7)

You say I should work hard to make this world a better place,
but it’s for us, complete and good, to steward with good grace.  (Genesis 1:28-2:2)

You say that I must give to God, my duty to my King,
but ‘giving’ is a precious gift – He doesn’t need a thing.  (2 Corinthians 9:12-15, Psalm 50:9-12)

You say that I must make amends, with sacrifice atone,
one sacrifice for all’s been made, what’s needed has been done.  (Hebrews 10:10-14)

You say they’re massing arms and I should arm myself with hate
but what will overcome more sure is love compassionate.  (Proverbs 25:21-22, Matthew 5:43-45)

You tell me be afraid of harm from foreigner and troll,
the only one I need to fear is He who holds my soul.  (Matthew 10:28)

You say that I’m too radical, my message is too tough –
I hear the word and know that I’m not radical enough.  (Acts 17:6-7)
