Veils

Between the Word and me hang many veils,
Familiar Routines, Structure and Style,
Worry and Distraction.
Behind them I ignore
The challenge of the Word.

A hymn leads me to sing out loud
“He loves me”, with no emotion,
and no meaning for me or Him.

I long to come empty and unveiled,
whispering “You love me!”, feeling it
and knowing He has heard me.
His love is all, for all,
beyond religion.

2 Corinthians 3:12-18
