Guilty

She’s gone.
If I had done more she may still be here.
I could have supported her but I didn’t.
She had no-one alongside her.
I could have been there.
My life’s too full, too busy-busy.
She was awkward, set in her ways.
So willing to talk, so unwilling to change.
We all found her difficult.
Was I really guilty?

That voice again:
“She is my child and I love her.
In spurning her you hurt me.
When I spoke you did not listen,
when I prompted you did not act.
Yes, you were guilty but can be forgiven.
You can help me restore what was lost.
Put aside your difficulties with her.
Speak of how she loved me faithfully.
Follow her good example.
She has not gone, she is with me.”
