Is it a debt being repaid
for something given, fixed, or made?
Is it so I’m expected to
do something I don’t want to do?
Is it control, a subtle way
to block what I can do or say?
Is it something being done right
like cut flowers for a meal invite?
Or is it Love? Saying to me
“Live your life to the full! Be free!”
This gift has come with motives mixed.
My “thank you” for it must be fixed
not on control, or debts, or rights,
or expectations, or old fights –
But only on that spark of Love.
The gifts I value most in life,
health, wisdom, joy and peace from strife,
all undeserved. Can I repay?
Those donors from the past all say
“No! Not to us! We’re in debt too!
Give on like us! That’s what to do!”
So who began this “giving on”?
Was it our Lord who gave His Son?
